Does walking in your closet make you happy, or does it make you feel overwhelmed? Having a beautifully organized closet is almost everyone's dream! Though, the mere thought of the work involved can derail the project before it starts. What if you approached this task from a unique perspective? Instead of telling yourself, "I've got to get this done, " say, "I am going to design a space that brings me joy whenever I enter it!"
Closet organization doesn't have to be boring! Creating a fun, yet functional space can make getting ready for the day much more enjoyable! Recently, a friend of mine, who is also an interior decorator, let me help her organize her small walk-in closet. Since this is just a temporary home for her, we couldn't change the design of the closet. So, working with what we had, we created an organized and fun space! Here are a few shots of the finished project.
Of course, we started the project by purging and categorizing all her clothing. After the sorting was completed, we switched her mix of hangers with my favorite slim-line hanger for organizing clothes closets. The design of this hanger is space-saving, prevents clothing from slipping off, and creates a uniform look. Make sure you look for a sturdy design that has a 360-degree swivel hook.
For a fun element, my friend added these stylish hat stands. Not only do they keep her hat collection in shape, but they also bring a smile to her face each time she enters the space. I especially like the addition of the cute print, which added a pop of color and whimsy. Who would think of adding this to a closet? She would!
Stylish hooks added additional storage along the narrow wall to hold purses.
Since space was tight, we added as much storage as possible without making the closet look too cluttered. These attractive baskets now hold her small purses, scarves, and other accessories. Adding cute labels added a little more pizzazz as well.
I'm looking forward to the next closet-organizing project. I will suggest adding some elements that are both fun and functional! What do you think? Would this be something you could create in your home? Of course, there are many closet designs. Choose what speaks to your style, budget, and taste.
